Crop diversity is well known for its importance in preserving the biodiversity of wild species in agricultural areas.
A crop diversity score is assigned by Genesis to each farm with a crop history.
Genesis is based on the ecoregime score for agricultural practices, which is part of the CAP's first-pillar support for implementing measures to adapt to and mitigate climate change.

Calculation details

In order to respect the practices specific to each part of the farm's crop rotation, in particular for arable land, each crop is assigned to one of the 9 families selected:
  1. Temporary grassland and fallow land
  1. Nitrogen fixing
  1. Winter cereals
  1. Spring cereals
  1. Weeds
  1. Winter oilseeds
  1. Spring oilseeds
  1. Other crops
  1. Permanent meadows (PM).
A number of points are assigned according to the weight of these families in relation to the Arable Land Area (ALA) or Utilized Agricultural Area (UAA). The greater the number of points, the more diversified the crop rotation.
In recognition of the difficulty for farms with a small amount of arable land to implement a sufficiently diversified crop rotation, having less than 10 hectares of arable land brings 2 bonus points. Similarly, farms with a high proportion of PM in their UAA, and usually a limited volume of TA, can earn up to 3 bonus points.

Thresholds overview

  • The standard level (or 1) is validated with 4 points.
  • As soon as the scoring exceeds 5 points, the "superior" level (or 2) is obtained.
  • If it is less than or equal to 3, then the "crop diversity" practice is considered as not validated.
